Monkey 7up Oreo Rabies

On our way up to one of the temples in mammallapuram today, we found our way blocked by a surly looking Monkey sitting on the steps. We nervously made our way past him, and did so successfully without getting bitten. Soon after we had though, a lady behind us who was carry a 7up bottle was accosted by the monkey, which ripped the bottle away from her.

The monkey then twisted open the bottle (they are learning!) and began drinking the soda! I had to check to make sure there wasn't a camera crew around filming a 7up commercial (there wasn't)

Then, a young man gave the monkey an Oreo (quick math problem. If a monkey takes a soda, and is then given an Oreo, what does the monkey have? Diabetes. The monkey has diabetes). Like a pro, the monkey twists apart the cookie and STARTS LICKING THE ICING! Again no film crew in sight.

Next, a young man who had apparently made a bet with his friends that he could get rabies by the end of his trip attempted to grab the soda from the monkeys paws/hands. As the monkey began to shriek and smile (bear its teeth menacingly) Moriah and I decided to leave the area before we learned whether or not this species of monkey was capable of ripping off someone's face.
